Experts get paid once the session has completed successfully. There are two session types: Practice Interview and General Q&A session. For Practice Interviews, the Expert is required to provide written feedback at the end of the session for the Candidate. Once these questions are answered the Expert will be paid automatically. If the session type was a General Q&A Session, there are no questions afterwards for the Expert to answer and they will be paid immediately. If there are any problems, please email our Support Team and we will help you promptly.

Sharpen receives 20% additively of the rate you’ve established. For example, if you set your rate at $100/session, a Candidate will view your rate as $120/session.

We do not. Experts are liable for their tax liabilities with regard to local, State and Federal laws.

While Sharpen can be a great place to meet and connect with talented professionals, you are not obligated to do so. Candidates pay for your time, feedback and nothing else. Additional connection is at your own discretion.

Hiring of candidates is not prohibited under Sharpen’s Terms of Service.

Rates are charged per session regardless of length. An Expert has the option to end the session early by clicking the “End Session” button. If a session is ended prematurely by the Expert, Candidates may dispute the charge, which will be resolved by our Customer Service team under our Satisfaction Guarantee. Be sure that you have the Candidates recorded permission to end a Session early.

In most cases, both parties can resume the Session by simply returning to the session lobby from the Sessions tab on their profile page. Otherwise, please contact Customer Support and we will work with you to resolve the issue.

Issues may be confidentially reported through the“Report a Problem” tab on the Session Details page. You can also email Customer Support.

We appreciate your patience - the process can take time to verify your identity and review your background. We generally get back to our Expert applicants between 24 and 72 hours.

If your LinkedIn profile is not up to date or well maintained, we definitely encourage you to do so as this is the primary source of used in approval decisions.

This is up to you, based upon your work history and personal valuation of your time. If you have set a rate and are not getting the level of response you would like, we encourage you to experiment with various pricing levels. You can change your rate anytime by going to your Profile section.

Probably nothing. The pool of candidates looking for professional mentoring or interview preparation fluctuates. You may want to search other similar Experts and compare your rates. If your rates are comparable, you may consider raising your profile visibility. This can be done through blog posts, article shares or participation in “Ask Me Anything” sessions.

If your session type was “General Q&A session” or you did a practice interview AND have already provided your written feedback, and we will ensure you are compensated for your time.

The intended purpose of Sharpen is to provide expertise and Experts are not obliged to honor LinkedIn connection requests. If you choose to do so, please do so respectfully and outside of your paid session. Disrespectful actions to any member of our community by another may result in that member’s removal from the Sharpen community.

Your profile is not visible to the general public and is not searchable on Sharpen. It is only presented to Experts who you request a session with. In other words, unless you request a session with your employer, they will not know you are on Sharpen.

To apply to become an Expert, simply click the link in the upper right of your Profile Page. There are no fixed qualifications, but make sure your LinkedIn profile is up to date as this is the primary source of information we use when considering Expert applications.

Keep in mind that the relationship between title and seniority differ between companies. For example, a Senior Manager at a large company may be more senior than a Vice President at a smaller one. Do your homework on the company, title and industry - if you are still coming up short, find an Expert who works close to the level you are looking for at a similar company in your desired industry or a similar industry.

You may be able to find another Expert who works at a similar/competitive company or in the same industry. We offer you the ability to filter by industry or by specific company names in our Search page.

Experts set their rates according to their own judgement. If you feel one is priced too high, there is no way to directly message them with this feedback, we encourage you to find another that meets your pricing expectations.
