Is it OK to ask Experts to connect with me on LinkedIn?

The intended purpose of Sharpen is to provide expertise and Experts are not obliged to honor LinkedIn connection requests. If you choose to do so, please do so respectfully and outside of your paid session. Disrespectful actions to any member of our community by another may result in that member’s removal from the Sharpen community.

Can I ask Experts to coach me on sales opportunities at their company?

This is outside the intended purpose of Sharpen and discouraged. If you choose to do so, please clearly state your intention in a General Q&A session. So that an Expert may make an informed decision to accept your request or not. Disrespectful actions to any member of our community by another may result in that member’s removal from the Sharpen community.

What if I need to reschedule session at the last minute?

Either party may cancel and/or reschedule a session up until the session start time. However, professional courtesy is requested from all of our members. Lack thereof may result in low ratings and/or removal from the Sharpen community.

How do I know an Expert is qualified?

Approval is at the discretion of our approval council, whose interest is in providing the most value to our community, Experts and Candidates alike. Experts’ LinkedIn profile information factors heavily, but not solely in this process.

Can a session be finished before the time expires? If so, will I still have to pay the full amount?

Rates are charged per session regardless of length. An Expert has the option to end the session early by clicking the “End Session” button. If a session is ended prematurely by the Expert, Candidates may dispute the charge, which will be resolved by our Customer Service team under our Satisfaction Guarantee.

My session quit early because of technical problems. Can I get a refund?

Can I maintain an anonymous profile on Sharpen? I don’t want my employer to know I’m looking.

Your profile is not visible to the general public and is not searchable on Sharpen. It is only presented to Experts who you request a session with. In other words, unless you request a session with your employer, they will not know you are on Sharpen.

An Expert behaved offensively/inappropriately. How do I report their behavior/block them?

I think my Expert has lied about their qualifications/work history. How do I report them?

How do I become an Expert? What are the qualifications?

To apply to become an Expert, simply click the link in the upper right of your Profile Page. There are no fixed qualifications, but make sure your LinkedIn profile is up to date as this is the primary source of information we use when considering Expert applications.

I can’t find an Expert at the level I’m looking for. What should I do?

Keep in mind that the relationship between title and seniority differ between companies. For example, a Senior Manager at a large company may be more senior than a Vice President at a smaller one. Do your homework on the company, title and industry - if you are still coming up short, find an Expert who works close to the level you are looking for at a similar company in your desired industry or a similar industry.

I can’t find an expert who works at the company I’m interested in. What should I do?

You may be able to find another Expert who works at a similar/competitive company or in the same industry. We offer you the ability to filter by industry or by specific company names in our Search page.

Can I negotiate with an Expert for a lower rate?

Experts set their rates according to their own judgement. If you feel one is priced too high, there is no way to directly message them with this feedback, we encourage you to find another that meets your pricing expectations.

Can I deduct my session payment as a business expense?

Please consult your tax professional regarding any questions about business expenses and tax deductions.

I wasn’t happy with my session. Who do I contact?

I no longer wish to be listed on Sharpen. How can I remove my profile?

I rated an Expert too high/low by mistake. How do I change my rating?

You can change your rating or feedback any time by going to your Sessions page and viewing your Session Details. On that page you can change your feedback under the Feedback tab.

I followed my Expert’s advice and didn’t get the job. Can I get a refund?

We offer access to Experts to help you prepare for an interview or career advice, we cannot guarantee job placement.

The playback on my video isn’t very clear. Can I get a refund?
